Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies in the Colne Valley, lying across the River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, approximately 5 miles south-west of Huddersfield.But it also has a small but fully functional Infants school called Whilberleigh, as well as having a Secondary School, with the same Name as the Valley it lays within Colne Valley Secondary School.
